Dalgety Revisited [2021]

photographic series

I revisited Dalgety in November 2021 a year later with my mum after learning that two of my photographs had been nominated for the Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Prize. It felt important to me to come back and revisit the town and learn more by meeting the residents and talking to the owners of the properties in town, such as Tegan Young and Scott Craig (with their dogs Moom & Bilstein) who are setting up a coffee roastery in the former Dalgety Garage, St James Anglican Church warden Pippa Robertson and the new owner of Iona Gardens Cafe and Nursery Barry ‘Baz’ McGrath, who recently took over management from longtime owners Julie and Ross Pearson.

Shot on Fujifilm Superia XTRA 400, the images had a strange green haze and dream-like quality to them - like sun peeking through a blanketed cloudy sky. We also were able to find a healthy patch of burr-daisies and native bluebells growing around the premises of the Boloco cemetary and quickly informed the Pippa the warden of the need to protect the area from lawnmowers.
